The Universitas Indonesia Pickleball Championship 2025 concluded with a thrilling display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Held from February 13-16 in Depok, the tournament featured top-tier competitors from across Indonesia, battling for supremacy in various categories. This year's championship saw outstanding performances, with athletes from West Sumatra and South Kalimantan making significant impacts on the podium.

Dominance in Men's Singles and Mixed Doubles

West Sumatra emerged as a powerhouse, claiming two gold medals and one silver. The Men's Singles 19+ final was an all-West Sumatra affair, where Yogi Fernandes triumphed over Jefri Wiranda with a hard-fought victory (12-10, 11-3, 6-11). The two also clashed in the Mixed Doubles 19+ category, but this time, Jefri Wiranda and his partner Karina Aditya Dwipayani took home the gold, overpowering Mustofa Mustofa and Desak Bija (11-5, 11-0). These victories reinforced West Sumatra’s growing reputation in Indonesia’s pickleball scene.

The Chairman of the West Sumatra Pickleball Association, Tarmizi Mawardi, expressed immense pride in his athletes' achievements. “This is a sign that pickleball is booming in Ranah Minang,” he said, highlighting the region’s expanding presence in the sport. He also hinted at future rewards for the top-performing athletes, acknowledging their efforts in bringing glory to West Sumatra.

South Kalimantan’s Impressive Run in 50+ Mixed Doubles

Athletes from Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, also delivered commendable performances, particularly in the Mixed Doubles 50+ category. The duo of Susila Watibjr and Edy Kurniawan clinched the gold medal, while their fellow Banjarbaru athlete, I Gusti Ngurah Alit Putra Hariwibawa, partnered with Novy Emiliabjr to secure the silver. Their achievement demonstrated the depth of talent in South Kalimantan, despite their younger counterparts bowing out in the quarter-finals of the Women's Doubles 19+ category.

Speaking on behalf of IPF Banjarbaru's Competition and Achievement Division, Novy Emilia Rousilawaty expressed gratitude for their success. “We are grateful to bring home gold and silver in the 50+ Mixed Doubles. This is a testament to our athletes' hard work and dedication,” she said. She also emphasized the importance of continuous support for pickleball in South Kalimantan, hoping for increased recognition and more opportunities for local players.
