The Selangor ASICS Pickleball Open marked a significant milestone for the growing pickleball community in Malaysia. Held on February 15-16 at the premier DINK2 courts in Petaling Jaya, the tournament attracted more than 200 enthusiastic players from across the country, all eager to compete at the highest level.
A Thrilling Display of Skill and Teamwork
The tournament featured an exciting mix of individual and team-based events, with a strong emphasis on both experienced competitors and rising talents. The team competition was a highlight, featuring categories such as men’s doubles open, men’s doubles (combined age 90+), mixed doubles (combined age 80+), and women’s doubles (combined age 70+). Meanwhile, the men’s and women’s novice singles categories provided a competitive platform for new players to make their mark.

Singles Showdown: Champions Rise
The singles division delivered intense matchups, with Connie Chan dominating the women’s category to claim first place. She was joined on the podium by runner-up Maxine Teoh Kah Wai and third-place finisher Lim Ju-En, while Yong Sze Jing took fourth place. In the men’s singles, Danny Tan emerged victorious, followed closely by silver medalist Lee Jia An and bronze medalist Jaden Tham. Ritchie Lee Zhe Zhin rounded out the top four with a strong performance.
Team Event: A Battle for Supremacy
The team event brought high-energy matches, showcasing teamwork and strategy. 002 East-West secured the championship title, with DINKiT putting up a commendable fight to take second place. MYP SJ clinched third, while the Dink Dongs finished in fourth place. Each team, consisting of six to eight players, competed fiercely across all categories, making for a memorable tournament experience.

The success of the Selangor ASICS Pickleball Open was made possible through the collaboration of LinkedUp Asia Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia’s premier pickleball tournament organizer, with the State Government of Selangor and ASICS Malaysia. This event is part of ASICS Malaysia’s broader initiative to support the development of elite pickleball players while also nurturing grassroots participation.
Boon Tib, Country Manager of ASICS Malaysia, emphasized the sport’s growing significance in the country. “Pickleball represents a unique opportunity for Malaysia to shine on multiple fronts. As a sport that welcomes participants of all ages and abilities, it perfectly embodies our ‘Sound Mind, Sound Body’ philosophy, promoting not just physical fitness but mental well-being through community engagement and active lifestyles,” he stated. “Partnering with the state of Selangor for this tournament allows us to inspire elite athletes while encouraging grassroots players to embrace this inclusive sport.”
