TOURNAMENT MECHANICS

Team Composition & Categories

Each team consists of 2 men and 2 women. Teams can join one of the following categories:

  • Novice (DUPR 2.5-2.99)

  • Intermediate (DUPR 3.00-3.99)

  • Advanced (DUPR 4.0-4.75)

Determining Skill Rating

  • Based on DUPR or peer ratings, verified by a committee of experienced referees and coaches.

  • The committee reserves the right to adjust a team’s category if needed.

  • Players must provide DUPR profiles or create one during the tournament.

  • Medalists in past tournaments cannot join as Novices.

  • Players with a varsity background in tennis, badminton, or table tennis are recommended for Intermediate or higher.

Tournament Format

  • Single Round Robin format with 2 groups per division.

  • Each group consists of 4 teams.

  • Each match includes 5 games:

    • Men's Doubles

    • Women's Doubles

    • Mixed Doubles A

    • Mixed Doubles B

    • Best Mixed Doubles Team

  • Game format: One game to 11 points (standard scoring), with a 15-minute time limit.

  • Semis & Finals: Best-of-5 format, with a tiebreaking 5th game if needed.

Scoring System

  • Round Robin: Side-out scoring to 11 points (win by 2 points).

  • Elimination Games: Strict 15-minute limit; the leading team wins when time expires.

  • Semis & Finals: No time limit, side-out scoring to 11 points.

Timeouts

  • Each team is allowed one (1) 60-second timeout per game.

  • Water or towel breaks are permitted without using a timeout, provided they do not disrupt the game.

  • If a break disrupts the game, the referee may charge the delaying team's timeout. If no timeouts remain, a technical warning may be issued.

Line Calls

  • Players are responsible for most line calls.

  • The referee will handle service foot faults, Non-Volley Zone foot faults, short serves, and other NVZ violations.

  • If a team challenges a line call, the referee will make the final decision only if they saw the ball.

  • If a player disagrees with a referee’s ruling, they may appeal to the head referee or tournament director.

  • If the ruling stands, the appealing team loses a timeout and receives a technical warning. If no timeouts remain, a technical foul is issued.

  • If the ruling is incorrect, the point will be replayed with no penalty.

Match Schedules

  • Players must be at the court when their game is scheduled.

  • If a prior match finishes early, the next teams must be ready.
